CIT maintains a number of web sites based on LAMP technology. Some such sites are maintained through the LAMP service offered by the hosting group in CIT/IS. Other sites are "ad hoc" sites where staff have taken on the additional responsibility of maintaining a LAMP environment themselves for their applications, and other sites are maintained specifically for faculty in conjunction with FIT grants. It would seem that we could benefit from consolidating these LAMP environments into one hosted service that everyone could use. This should reduce the number of staff needed to maintain such environments and free them up to work on other projects. This investigation goes hand in hand with the Cloud Computing Investigation as LAMP technologies would be a strong candidate for deployment in a cloud environment! |
